Information for school and university students

If you go to school or university, you can get paid through specific-task contracts and also through mandate contracts. We use a mandate contract when your client pays you for time worked (for example, at an hourly rate), not for a result.

Student status

To use mandate contracts on Useme, you need student status or an employment status. If you qualify for both, choose student status.

Who can get student status?

You can get student status if you:

• are under 26 years old,
• live in Poland (you’re a Polish tax resident),
• study at a school or university.

Postgraduate students can’t get student status on Useme under Polish higher education law.

How to activate your student status

You need a picture or scan of your student ID or a confirmation from your school or university.

To activate your student status:

1. Log in to Useme.
2. Go to: Settings → Freelancer → Documents → click “Edit documents” → Student status → click “Upload a student card”.
3. Upload your document and fill in its number and expiry date.
• If you upload a student ID:
• upload the front and the back of the document,
• enter the expiry date of your student ID,
• enter your student ID number or your student number.
• If you upload a confirmation from your school or university:
• upload the front of the document again in the field for the back,
• enter the confirmation number and its expiry date.
4. We’ll check your document and email you once your student status is active.

How long is the student status valid?

Your student status is valid until the date shown on your uploaded document. Exception: Your student status ends on the day you defend your bachelor’s or master’s thesis – even if your student ID is still valid. Please let us know when that happens.

How to renew your student status

To renew your student status, upload a new picture or scan of your student ID with a current stamp, or a current confirmation from your school or university.

We’ll email you a reminder 14 days before your student status expires.

How to get paid through a mandate contract with student status

If your type of work fits a mandate contract, remember a few things when you invoice your client:

• Make sure your student status is active.
• Choose the category Jobs for students.
• Make sure your hourly rate isn’t lower than the current Polish minimum hourly rate.
• Upload a timesheet as your work file.

Income tax and health insurance contribution

We don’t deduct income tax from your payout for mandate contracts. That’s because Poland’s tax relief for young people covers you until you turn 26. Exception: if your invoice amount is less than 200 PLN, we have to deduct income tax.

We also don’t deduct a health insurance contribution from your payout. Students are covered by their family’s or their school’s or university’s health insurance.
