How licensing and copyright transfer work on Useme
When you invoice a client through Useme, you can decide how they’ll be allowed to use your work. You can either transfer the economic copyright or grant a license.
How to transfer rights or grant a license
Where to find the confirmation documents
You don’t need to prepare or sign any documents yourself – everything happens automatically when you fill out the invoicing form. Read on to learn how it works step by step.
How to transfer rights or grant a license
You choose how your client can use your work when:
- invoicing your client through the Invoice a client form;
- submitting the offer for the job in Useme Jobs.
One of the steps includes a copyright section. You’ll see three options:
- License
- Copyright transfer,
- No copyright transfer.
Just tick the right checkbox – and that’s it. The rest is done “behind the scenes” by us. We transfer copyrights, grant a license to your client, or do neither – depending on what you selected in the form.
Everything happens online and is legally binding based on our Terms and Conditions. You and your client don’t need to print, scan, or sign anything.
Where to find the confirmation documents
After the client pays for the deal, we’ll generate a document confirming the license or copyright transfer.
To download it:
- Log in to Useme.
- Go to Deals.
- Open the relevant deal and go to the Documents section where you’ll find it.
The document type depends on what you chose:
- If you granted a license – you and the client get a license confirmation document immediately.
- If you transferred the copyright – you and the client get a copyright assignment protocol within 7 business days.
We’ll also send the documents by email.
